Schools have many learners in Primary one to Primary three, but numbers sharply drop from Primary four to Primary seven because low-income families with limited farming land pull children, especially older teens, out of school to work for food and other needs of the family. To keep learners in school, we implement the following interventions in our response:
1) Offer vocation training as an alternative for older teenagers who have failed to complete or continue with formal education to improve their livelihoods.
2) Partner with NGOs and government programs to supply agricultural inputs or income generating projects for families, easing pressure on children.
3) Supporting vulnerable girls with sanitary material to help reduce barriers and increase retention
4) Strengthening awareness campaign about the long term benefits of education for both families and community
5) Creating conducive school environment through compound greening
